Job Description
This role offers the opportunity to shape and scale the backend architecture of a rapidly growing, remote-first technology platform. As a Senior Backend Engineer, you will be responsible for building and maintaining critical systems that support hundreds of millions of participant records and billions of events. You will work on high-impact projects such as data pipelines, workflow automation, search APIs, and email/SMS delivery, ensuring reliability, observability, and operational excellence. The role requires strong technical fundamentals, a platform-first mindset, and the ability to lead complex projects while mentoring other engineers. You will collaborate across product, design, and business teams to deliver robust, scalable solutions that directly impact the user experience and company growth.
- Accountabilities
- Design, scale, and evolve backend systems to manage large-scale data and complex workflows.
- Maintain and improve critical infrastructure including email/SMS delivery, data synchronization pipelines, search APIs, and workflow automation.
- Optimize existing services for performance, reliability, and scalability, supporting long-term growth.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams including product, design, and customer success to align engineering efforts with user needs and business goals.
- Lead architectural improvements, implement platform-first design principles, and guide technical decision-making.
- Mentor engineers and participate in code reviews to maintain high development standards and knowledge sharing.
- Requirements
- Extensive experience developing and maintaining complex backend systems.
- Strong proficiency in JavaScript/TypeScript, with a solid understanding of backend development principles.
- Experience building systems that scale from 1→10, including infrastructure and platform evolution.
- Proven track record of leading significant engineering projects or teams.
- Familiarity with distributed systems, event-driven architectures, and microservices patterns is a plus.
- Prior experience in fast-paced startup environments is advantageous.
