Job Description

Affirm is reinventing credit to make it more honest and friendly, giving consumers the flexibility to buy now and pay later without any hidden fees or compounding interest.

The Powered by Affirm (PBA) team builds the APIs and solutions that power all of Affirm’s integrations with Enterprise Merchants and Partners. We create and manage the APIs and tools that drive checkout and merchant onboarding, and we collaborate with stakeholders to design and build custom end-to-end integrated solutions.

What You'll Do

• You will be responsible for owning and delivering quarterly goals for your team, leading engineers through ambiguity to solve open-ended problems, and ensuring everyone is supported throughout delivery.
• You will support peers and stakeholders in the product development lifecycle by collaborating with product management, design, and analytics—participating in ideation, articulating technical constraints, and partnering on risk-aware decisions.
• You will proactively identify project, process, technology, or business issues, advocate for them, and lead efforts to solve them.
• You will support operations and availability by creating and monitoring metrics, escalating when needed, and supporting on-call and “keep the lights on” efforts.
• You will foster a culture of quality and ownership by setting or improving code review and design standards, and advocating for them through writing and tech talks.
• You will help develop talent by providing feedback, guidance, and leading by example.

What We Look For

• 4+ years of experience designing, developing, and launching backend systems at scale using languages such as Python or Kotlin.
• Proven experience building highly available distributed systems using technologies like AWS, MySQL, and Kubernetes.
• Experience defining technical plans for significant features or system components with elegant, simple, and extensible designs.
• Proficiency in making significant changes in large codebases with tools and practices that ensure safety and reliability.
• Demonstrated ownership of personal growth and proactive feedback-seeking from team members, managers, and stakeholders.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills supporting effective collaboration with a global engineering team.
• Equivalent practical experience or a Bachelor’s degree in a related field.

Pay Grade: N

Equity Grade: 8

Employees new to Affirm typically come in at the start of the pay range. Affirm provides a simple and transparent pay structure based on location, experience, and job-related skills.

Base pay is part of a total compensation package that may include equity rewards, monthly stipends for health, wellness, and tech spending, and benefits including 100% subsidized medical, dental, and vision coverage for you and your dependents.

USA base pay range (CA, WA, NY, NJ, CT): $190,000 – $240,000 per year

USA base pay range (all other U.S. states): $169,000 – $219,000 per year
